CIS Networking Group Web Sites

The CIS Network Group is responsible for the campus computer network backbone and LAN's. They have several sites that provide useful information. They are:

Network Information Manager (NIM)

All IP addresses at TAMU are maintained using Network Information Manager (NIM). To access NIM, telnet to nim.tamu.edu. You will be asked for a logon-id and password. You should use the logon ID and password that is used to access Neo. After you login, you will be presented with menus and screens which will let you create and modify your host entries. The changes in the NIM database take effect in DNS typically within 24 hours. Additional information can be found here.

Campus Listserv

The campus listserv is listserv.tamu.edu.

tamu-net Announcement list for notifying users of the Texas A&M University campus network of upcoming changes/events and to provide other useful information.

tamu-net is *not* a discussion list; it is used as an announcement list only. It should be a relatively low volume/high content list.

Subscribe by sending email to "Majordomo@net.tamu.edu" and in the BODY put "unsubscribe tamu-net emailaddress" (without the quotes).

am-compadmin Discussion list for computer administrators at TAMU.

Subscribe by sending email to "listserv@listserv.tamu.edu" and in the BODY put "SUBSCRIBE am-compadmin firstname lastname" (without the quotes).

am-windows Discussion list for Windows administrators at TAMU.

Higher Education Listserv

A listserv for Windows 2000 in higher education can be subscribed to by sending a message to majordomo@lists.stanford.edu. In the BODY put  "subscribe windows-hied".
